Walton Casuals 1 – 2 Guildford City (Surrey Senior Cup Second Round)

City manager Kevin Rayner decided to rest Antony Hall, Jaydon Gibbs and Jack Guilford and gave a start to Luke Bradnick and Michael Hall in this Surrey Senior Cup tie at Ryman 1 South Walton Casuals. The Ryman side started brightly and went ahead in only the 9th minute when a great cross was headed in by Liam Hind, giving Michael Hall, who was making his City debut in place of his brother Antony, no chance.Up front for City, the two Joels were doing their best to make headway against a resolute Casuals defence, with Luke Bradnick trying to carve out some crosses from the left wing without anything like a scoring chance coming City’s way.
In the 29th minute Hall gave City a fright by coming way out of his area to try and clear, but losing possession. Fortunately the defence got back in time and cleared their lines. Right on half time City had their first serious shot at goal when Hughes played a nice ball into Greaves who’s shot went over.

Guildford came out looking a new team in the second half. Almost back to their free flowing best they really started to have a go at Casuals. Anthony Bridgeman coming on for Will Heavey gave City a cutting edge down the right wing, with first Hughes and then Greaves coming close to the equaliser. In the 62nd minute Tony Chaplin nodded in the equaliser to deservedly draw City level. Thing got even better for the travelling supporters when Bridgeman was played through one on one with the Casuals keeper and cooly slotted home to put City in front. Walton looked resigned to their fate after that and Hall in the City goal only had the most simplest of mopping up to do as his defence hardly gave the home side a sniff of the goal for the remaining 20 minutes.
