RUGGLES REVIEW: TADLEY CALLEVA (FA VASE)

Ian Plested caught up with manager Pete Ruggles and midfielder Zeid Hannachi after our FA Vase victory vs Tadley Calleva. City were brilliant in what was a physical match versus our fellow combined counties side. The home side had most of the possession in the first 45 minutes but the Sweeney created the better chances, the best coming from Dejarhn Grant who was sent through on goal but couldn’t beat the keeper.

Tadley struck first in the second half with a wonder strike from just inside the Guildford half. After Ruggles’s side went behind and made a couple of changes we started piling on the pressure. Stephan Langley broke down the right hand side and forced the keeper into a good low save. Spaces were opening up and in the 79th minute Hannachi found plenty of it and was able to bring the ball forward. He played through Jacob Breckon who slotted past the onrushing keeper to make it 1-1. After the goal the game opened up but it was from the spot where this tie would be decided.

Sweeney keeper Craig Smith (who came into the side for the injured Stuart Norman) saved twice in the shootout with all City shooters finding the back of the net!
