RUGGLES APPOINTS HIS COACHING STAFF

Following his announcement as Guildford City’s new first team manager, Pete Ruggles has wasted no time in announcing his backroom staff.

On the appointments, manager Pete Ruggles said: “I’m delighted to announce my coaching staff of Neil Roissetter as assistant manager, Tom Davis & Sam Cave as first team coaches and Richard Shelley as goalkeeping coach. All four coaches were with me at Sheerwater, we are a good team that work very well together. They are all hungry and excited for the new challenge ahead and like me they can’t wait to get going. All four bring dedication and valuable experience at this level of football and we have already begun working behind the scenes to be as ready as possible come pre-season in June.”

Neil Roissetter (Assistant Manager) – Neil has played in the Combined Counties League since he was 18 years of age, playing for Knaphill, Westfield and Sheerwater as a combative midfield player, and more latterly a central defender. During his playing career he captained all three of his former sides. Neil was also Sheerwater player of the year in their 2018-19 Division One championship season. In 2020 Neil stepped up to act as Sheerwater assistant manager whilst still making the occasional appearance on the pitch.

Tom Davis (First Team Coach) – Tom played in the Combined Counties League for Cobham, Knaphill and Sheerwater from the age of 16, although his playing career was cut short by injury. Subsequently Tom now has more than 20 years of coaching experience behind him. Popular with his colleagues he has won clubman awards at various clubs.

Sam Cave (First Team Coach) – Sam has coached from a young age starting as assistant manager at Hartley Wintney reserve side. Sam moved to Badshot Lea and became manager of their U18s. He was subsequently asked to join Pete Ruggles at Sheerwater as a first team coach. Sam’s “day job” is coaching at Dorking Wanderers academy.

Richard Shelley (Goalkeeper Coach) – Richard was formerly well known as one of the leading goalkeepers in the Combined Counties League. Over a 20-year career he played for Knaphill, Westfield, Sheerwater and Eversley & California. He was a member of Knaphill’s CCL League Cup winning side in 2017-18 and Sheerwater’s Division One championship side in 2018-19. In January 2019 Pete Ruggles asked Richard to take on a coaching role with the goalkeepers, as well as providing cover for the playing squad.
