Camberley Town (1) 2, Guildford City (0) 1
by Alex Smithyes
It was late heartbreak for City as we fall to defeat against Camberley. Kai Beck netted for City however it wasn’t enough as we fall to defeat after a late strike in a 2-1 defeat.
Guildford started poorly, creating little chances in the opening ten minutes. The deadlock was broken after 12 minutes as Sam Whitehead found the net for the host which is what they deserved. Guildford never got going in the first half with Camberley having most of the chances. Tristan Rees said this “We weren’t good enough in that first half and we know that”.
After the break The Sweeney came out the blocks like a different side. Will May had been replaced by Manny Acheampong who came on and changed the game for City. Rees had this to say about his performance “Manny came on and proved why it’s now his shirt to keep”.
The equaliser was found after 53 minutes as Kai Beck found the back of the net after Stuart Norman spilled a shot and Beck was alert and poked the ball home. Just after the goal Acheampong forced Norman into another good save.
Guildford managed to keep the ball and created many chances until late on. Camberley grew into the second half with ten minutes to go forcing Mac Chisholm into some good saves. Camberley were now looking like they’d grab the winner and so they did with virtually the last kick of the game. Leo Spicer was the man who found the net who appeared to head the ball past Chisholm from close range.
For Guildford that is now five defeats on the bounce and will have to look to turn things around in midweek.
