This week, a true Surrey and grassroots legend Cyril West passed away. Cyril gave great service to all associated with Surrey football & will be sadly missed.
David West, Son of Cyril, says “It is with immense sadness that I report that Cyril West passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday 2 March at the age of 93.”
Cyril was one of the most recognised individuals in football in the Guildford and Woking areas, cycling everywhere to his games and refereeing even at the age of 80.
For 34 years he was involved with football administration, most notably as Secretary of the Surrey and Hants Border Sunday League as well as roles with the Guildford and Woking Alliance, Surrey County FA and the Guildford Referees Society.
In 2010, he was honoured with the Outstanding Service to Sport award at the Surrey Sports Awards.
Cyril’s funeral takes place at midday on Monday 28 March at Guildford Crematorium and donations are invited for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice at www.pth.org.uk
