The first half was a cagey affair with neither side really threatening and Molesey out-muscling City through their huge centre halfs. Still, it was Guildford who got on the score sheet in the 33rd minute – a Joel Greaves shot taking a wicked deflection off a defender, bamboozling the keeper and finding its way into the back of the net. City looked good after that and started to put the Moles on the back foot. They were undone however by some slack defending – a throw going to Simon Cooper before he was ready, allowing James McShane to nip in and slot past Anthony Hall in the 42nd minute.
The second half really was a very poor spectacle as both midfields seemed to cancel each other out for long periods. Nevertheless both sides had spells of pressure and could have nicked the winner. Anthony Bridgeman was a particular offender about half way through the half, failing to take his chance to head past the keeper before the defender cleared. Joel Greaves then hit the corner of the goalpost with a shot from an extreme angle. At the other end Molesey could have won it in stoppage time – the ball being played through the middle to a player not in an offside position and then passed to his team-mate (who had been offside – no flag). Somehow though he fired wide of the far post with the net gaping.
