Despite a tremendous rearguard action Guildford City have finally succumbed to relegation. The squad had given everything in the later months of the campaign with a young squad playing some great football. To round off the season management, players and supporters gathered at the City Club for the presentation of awards.
Secretary Barry Underwood thanked the players, the management and all of the club volunteers for their efforts over a testing season. He said that “Relegation would give the club time to reset and come back as a stronger club”. Manager Carl Taylor also thanked his players for their sterling efforts saying his aim had been to provide them with the experience to further develop their footballing careers. Ian Plested then gave a more humorous precis of the season.
It was the team captain KAI ZINI who dominated the awards, winning the Manager’s, Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Season. He also won the top goalscorer award with a highly respectable 15 goals. The evening’s other prize winner was 19-year-old goalkeeper MARVIN WOOD who won the Young Player award.
