End of Season Awards 2016

It was Matt Anton’s night on Sunday at the Guildford City awards evening held at the City Club in Joseph’s Road.  Not content with winning the top goal scorer award, the City striker also walked away with the Supporters’ Player of the Season award, Manager’s Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season. Anton who joined the club in October from Surrey Elite League side Godalming & Farncombe soon became a favourite of players and supporters alike, and his 14 goals in 26 appearances played a big part in City consolidating their league position.

The Young Player of the Year award went to Tom O’Connor whose stylish performances in midfield attracted considerable attention. Indeed such was the quality of his play that he spent the last month of the season playing for Bromley in the National Conference.  Other awards included the Goal of the Season scored by Darren Caesar against Westfield on 17 March, Chris Read who won the Unsung Volunteer award, and Barry Underwood who won Clubman of the Year award.

Prior to the main awards Ian Plested entertained those present with a series of light-hearted awards. These included “Best Moment of Skill for a Non-Player” which was won by Derek Tucker for his looping header at Epsom, “Best Atmosphere” at Chessington (away) and “Most Adamant Supporter” which was won by Kevin “Penalty” Parker!
