Late strikes from Corey Holder and Joel Hughes secured three points for Guildford City after Thatcham Town had pegged back Austin Gacheru’s first half goal.

In a balanced first half, in which neither side really created many excellent chances. Thatcham came close before the half hour mark but Antony Hall blocked Jack Coventry’s shot with his legs. Minutes later Austin Gacheru gave the visitors the lead, calmly taking his time to slot home. The lead didn’t last until half-time however, with Thatcham levelling when Danny Seaward finished off a good move from a free-kick.

There wasn’t much between the sides but as the second half progressed the City defence seemed to be coping with the Thatcham attack without any real trouble, and chances were falling the visitors’ way. With a little under ten minutes remaining, Corey Holder found himself with time on the egde of the box following a corner and his composed shot put City ahead. It got even better a few minutes later as City made sure of their third straight league victory. Thatcham goalkeeper Rhys Marshall raced out to collect a throughball but collided with a defender, leaving Joel Hughes with the simple task of tapping City’s third goal into an empty net.
