Guildford City earned a comfortable victory over Sandhurst Town thanks to a confident and exciting performance. Austin Gacheru bagged a brace, while the in-form Dan Moody continued his scoring streak – Jack Guilford and Will Heavey heading goals at opposite ends of the match to complete the scoring for City. Sandhurst managed a late consolation on the break but the result was never in doubt.
Jack Guilford started the scoring in the third minute, meeting Jaydon Gibbs cross with a powerful header. On quarter of an hour, Austin Gacheru took advantage of a Dan Moody pass to slot home the second. Sandhurst enjoyed a spell of possession but rarely threatened the City defence, although they came close with an effort blasted wide of the far post. Towards the end of the half the visitors thought they had netted a third, but Gacheru’s effort was pulled back for a City free kick when an advantage would have been advantageous!
City didn’t have to wait long for that third goal however, as Dan Moody got ahead of Fizzers goalkeeper Matthew Watson five minutes after the break, running through to score in an empty net. City had prolonged periods of dominance during the second half and could have scored through Dunn, Gibbs and Gacheru. At one point Watson appeared to carry the ball over the line under pressure from Guilford but no goal was awarded. Gacheru did score a fourth for City when he prodded home with quarter of an hour to play.
Sandhurst scored in the 90th minute, breaking down the left hand side and rounding Antony Hall to slot home. However, in stoppage time Will Heavey stooped to delightfully head in a low sweeping cross to restore the four goal advantage.
