Once again a freakish goal, this time in the final moments, saw City fall to another pre-season defeat. With a handful of changes to the team that played at Marlow on Tuesday, City opened brightly and the first chance fell to Cambo Smith who blazed wide. Redhill gradually gained a toehold on the game and Guildford lost their cohesion as the half progressed. The home side took the lead from the penalty spot on 20 minutes, and subsequently had several half chances to add to their lead.
City stepped up several gears in the second period, displaying some delightful passing football. Enjoying territorial dominance they deservedly equalised after 60 minutes; Ben Walshe smashing home a free-kick from fully 35 yards. The Dalhouse brothers were enjoying a good match with Aarron in particular rock-like in central defence. Up front Andrew worked hard and late in the game a couple of half chances went begging following an unfortunate pass option. Just as Sweeney members present were contemplating a deserved draw, calamity befell the City defence. With just a minute left on the clock Redhill humped a high ball forward which the covering Josh Clayman intercepted. The ball ran towards Aaron Bufton in the visitors goal but his first time clearance cannoned off a Redhill striker leaving a simple tap in. Once again the thought was let’s get the freak goals and mistakes out of the way before Mangotsfield on 17 August.
