Pre Season Friendly
Guildford City visited Parsonage Field on Tuesday evening to face the reigning CCL Division One champions Farleigh Rovers. In warm conditions, and on a good grass pitch, City played some good possession football and in truth could have won by more than the final score of 3-0. Kiyanu Pillay was a constant thorn to the home side, and he was the player who opened the scoring after 25 minutes when his persistence led to him winning the ball wide out on the flank before calmly shooting home from an acute angle. City’s domination continued after the break and on 52 minutes Josh Drew broke his goal scoring duck for the season when he calmly slotted home after defensive confusion. Liam Beach was twice called into spectacular action between the sticks but generally City’s defence, with Matt York and Jack Collins at the heart, looked secure. In the game’s final moments young debutant Athan Smith-Joseph deservedly netted the third and afterwards manager Don Chislett professed himself content with progress with still four pre-season matches to play.

Interviewer Ian Plested spoke to manager Don Chislett after the match and you can listen to it here.

Guildford City’s next pre-season fixture is on Saturday 25 July against Broadbridge Heath at Ash Manor School. Kick-off is at the unusual time of 1pm and spectators are welcome.
