Heroes Welcome in Guildford

The Heroes Welcome scheme all started in Scarborough when a few local businesses, now over 500 strong and growing, grouped together in order to offer visiting service personnel special discounts.

Guildford Borough Council has now signed up to the Heroes Welcome campaign to show support for British armed forces personnel. We are working with local businesses to offer discounts, service upgrades or special acknowledgement. Keep a look out for places where they display the Heroes Welcome in Guildford logo. Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Marsha Moseley announced that Guildford would be supporting the Heroes Welcome scheme at the flag raising ceremony for Armed forces Day on Monday 21 June 2010.

L Cpl Rob Kelly, 1st Battalion Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment was pleased to hear that Guildford were supporting the scheme, he said “it looks good, it’s always good to receive support from the people back at home.”

The scheme aims to provide a heroes welcome to the men and women of the British armed forces (including reserved forces) and veterans on production of an identification card.

The scheme is being backed by Surrey Chambers and local football club, Guildford City FC has already pledged to offer a discount to any serving personnel that attend their matches.
