Guildford City Football Club’s officials, players and supporters gathered together at the City Club on Sunday evening to officially round off the season at the club’s annual Presentation evening. Against the odds three consecutive victories in the final matches of the season had secured Premier division safety. Consequently the event was seen very much as a celebration of the success in beating the drop, but also recognition of the strides forward made over the season towards strengthening its community links.
The evening opened with Ian Plested hosting the annual humorous awards. Club captain Jack Collins took his “Miss of the Season” certificate in good part, whilst amongst the other awards Alan Wyle won the “Car Journey of the Year” award for his tales of working in Amsterdam, whilst travelling to Littlehampton Town.
Event organiser Eddie Russell hosted the main awards. For the first time an “Unsung Hero” trophy was awarded which was won jointly by Matt Gregory and David Martin. Meanwhile Clubman of the Year was won by Kevin Parker.
There was much anticipation as to who would win the footballing awards. First team manager Don Chislett took to the stage and gave a stirring run down of his experiences since his appointment at the end of November. He then stayed on stage to present the following awards: Manager’s Player of the Year = Jack Collins, Supporters’ Player of the Year = Anthony Baker, Players’ Player of the Year = Dan Stewart, Young Player of the Year = Liam Beach, Goal of the Season = Anthony Baker and Save of the Season = Liam Beach.
The evening rounded off with a buffet and music provided by photographer/DJ Paul Burgman. An enjoyable evening was had by all and now after a very short break thoughts will be turned to next season.
