Guildford City 4 Abbey Rangers 2: Post Match Interviews

Fourth place Abbey visited Wey Court in the throes of an injury crisis and performed commendably despite going down to a rejuvenated Guildford side by four goals to two. Guildford themselves has been no stranger to playing against the odds in recent weeks and certainly over a full season every side will face significant challenges.

With new faces Theo Woodhouse and Andrew Mensah in the starting line-up, City came from a goal down to get a deserved three points. After a superb free-kick from the away side the Sweeney swiftly responded with goals from Kyen Nicholas, Eli Ogunseye and Jordan Gallagher. Chris Balchin’s side could have extended their lead in the second half with chances falling to Nicholas and Ogunseye. The away side thought they had got back into the game scoring in the 85th minute but to the relief of the Sweeney supporters Tom Griffin, a city youth team player, scooted through and smashed a shot from the edge of the box past McGregor. In stoppage time Abbey managed to hit the woodwork but it was to be City’s day as they gained an impressive win to take them into Christmas.

Tom Hudson caught up with first team manager Chris Balchin and debutee Theo Woodhouse after the victory:
