On a cold and frosty night at High Road the home side gained three valuable league points, at the same time gaining revenge for their Surrey Senior Cup defeat at the same venue last week. Epsom enjoyed much of the possession in the first period, but City for the most part looked composed, although a little lacking in attack. It was five minutes before the interval when the deadlock was broken in Epsom’s favour, and certainly City deemed themselves a little unlucky. Darryl Siaw went down on top of the ball, and expecting a free-kick he reached out with his hand to pull the ball back for a free-kick. It was a free-kick but unfortunately not for Guildford. Darryl Siaw found himself booked for deliberate handball, and to make matters worse Craig Hastings rose at the far post to head back past Luke Badiali for what proved to be the only goal of the game.
City stepped up a gear in the second period and shaded the second half, although again direct chances on goal were a little limited. With 15 minutes remaining City did have a golden chance to take something from the game when from a free-kick a free header was missed at the near post. Another decent performance by City with again nothing to show for it, and a noteworthy performance by new signing Nemo Adams at the heart of the defence.
