Egham Town VS Guildford City: Match Report

Egham Town (0) 1, Guildford City (2) 2

Match abandoned after 55 minutes

This entertaining game of football came to a premature end ten minutes into the second period when in the act of saving a penalty Guildford goalkeeper Devon Gordon dislocated his shoulder and couldn’t be moved from the pitch. The first half had seen City bely their poor league position with some great football. Athan Smith-Joseph had tucked home a cross in the first minute, and Dan Stewart had curled a wind assisted free-kick into the net just prior to the break. Egham had come out after the break with all guns blazing and had pulled a goal back through a Peden header. Minutes later Egham claimed a penalty which Devon Gordon saved brilliantly at full stretch. Sadly the 18 year old keeper landed badly and suffered the match-ending injury.

A big thank you to club physio Tiffany Weedon for aiding Devon until the ambulance arrived. Thank you also to the Egham town physio for her assistance and support, and to everyone at the Egham club for their help. We learnt during the evening that at the third attempt doctors were able to return Devon’s shoulder to its rightful position.

Prior to the match Luke Beale had been presented with a framed photograph to mark 100 games for the club. With the match being abandoned Luke temporarily has the strange record of celebrating a century of games whilst having only officially made 99 appearances!!

Guildford return to action this coming Wednesday when we entertain Bedfont & Feltham in a rearranged Cherry Red Records Premier Cup tie.  Kick-off is 7.30pm.
