Chaplin Celebrating City Century

Last weekend’s game marked another appearance landmark for a Guildford City player; it was the turn of Tony Chaplin who made his 100th appearance in helping Guildford to their first clean sheet of season in the 1-0 victory against Leighton Town.

Tony’s first appearance for City came in a 1-0 defeat to Egham Town on the 25th of February 2009, making him one of the longest serving Guildford players in the current team. After a couple of quiet seasons, Chaplin became a regular name on the Guildford team sheet during the two championship winning campaigns. Of Chaplin’s 100 appearances, 73 came in those two seasons, with Guildford winning 67% of the games he played in that time.

The 2010/11 season was probably Chaplin’s best season with him playing an instrumental role on and off the pitch. His consistent play and hard work with the Spectrum ground improvement saw him narrowly miss out on winning supporters’ player of the year at the end-of-season awards night.

So far in his Guildford City career Tony has scored 7 goals (including a contender for goal of the season away at Chessington & Hook in 2011), with Guildford never losing a game in which he has scored! Tony has helped City to 23 clean sheets in his 5 seasons at the club and they have only conceded 1.39 goals per game in which he has featured.

Tony Chaplin has been loyal and devoted to Guildford City over his career, an attitude that we hope we will continue!
