After very nearly two years at the highly experienced club manager Carl Taylor has departed the club. With the likelihood of the club moving to the Southern Combination League, both the Board and Carl feel that this is the appropriate time for the club to reset as it looks to rebuild with a stronger local focus.
When Carl joined Guildford City in May 2024, he inherited just one player meaning a complete squad rebuild was required. Rebuild he did and last season the side had its highest finish for a number of years. Off of the pitch Carl had been keen to create a family culture for players’, supporters’ and committee members. This he did and he had been a popular figure at the Spectrum. This year for unforeseen circumstances the club had a terrible first half of the season. Another rebuild mid-season then saw a talented young side just falling short in the battle to avoid relegation.
The Board would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Carl and his backroom team—Brad, Kenny, and Warren—for their commitment and the many unseen hours they have dedicated. In challenging circumstances, they ensured the team continued to compete and fight until the final day of the season.
An announcement regarding the vacant managers position will be made in due course.
