Where are they now?

Periodically we publish a “where are they now” feature on some of our players who in days gone past pulled on the famous red and white striped shirt!

Firstly of the young players who played for us over the last 12 months goalkeeper Liam Beach is now playing for Walton & Hersham in the Ryman League, Division One South and has already caught the eye with some excellent saves. Also Darren Oldaker, who is the son of our youth team coach and who made one appearance for us last season, was recently an unused substitute for League One league leaders Gillingham. Well done also to former players Tane Caubo, Ethan Chislett, Connor Gales, Dudley Pearn and Luke Robertson who were all involved in the Metropolitan Police’s U’18’s fantastic run in the FA Youth Cup, which saw them knock out Yeovil and Burnley before going out to Wolves in a match played at Molyneaux.

Meanwhile from slightly further back former captain in the double championship seasons Simon Cooper is now captain of Merstham playing in the Ryman Premier League. Striker Pat Cox is at Staines along with Jack Turner who played a few games in goal for us in Kevin Rayner’s early days.

Khari Oriogun is playing for Chatham Town in Ryman Division One North, along with Austin Gacheru, although their time at Guidford didn’t overlap. Our post 1996 record goal scorer Dan Moody is now at South Park in Ryman Division One South following a spell at Whyteleafe. In addition a real blast from the past Harrison Carnegie is playing for Phoenix Sports in Ryman Division One North.

More locally our 2013-14 Player of the Year Dominic Ogun is now playing for Chipstead in Ryman Division One South, but will also be known to some of our current players from his recent spell at Walton & Hersham. And how could we forget our very own Dr Jamie Thoroughgood, another former Guildford City Player of the Year, who is now playing for Winchester City in Southern League Division One South & West.

Finally our double championship winning manager Kevin Rayner is now boss at Farleigh Rovers in CCL Division One. A host of former City players are now playing for Kevin including Jack Guilford who scored all the goals in a 4-0 win at the weekend and Antony Hall, Sam Spencer, Will Heavey, Ben Walshe and Alex Afful.
