Dean Thomas’s developing side are back in action at the Spectrum on Saturday in what will be City’s last home match for six weeks. Dean’s first two matches in charge have provided plenty of entertainment for the watching fans. A thrilling 5-3 win over Raynes Park Vale a fortnight ago was followed last week by a 4-1 defeat at AFC Hayes, but the City performance in Middlesex that day earned plaudits and luck on the day certainly wasn’t looking kindly in City’s favour.  Club captain Jack Collins is only 50:50 for Saturday after picking up a knock at Hayes, but the good news is that Josh Drew who has been away on holiday has returned and is in the match day squad. New signing Aidan Bigley who plays in midfield and is in the military is also in line for his debut.

Our opponents Spelthorne Sports come into the game with confidence. After a poor start to this season’s league campaign Spelthorne’s management duo of Paul Johnson and Gary Ross resigned their positions at the end of September. Johnson and Ross had overseen a long unbeaten run that had taken Spelthorne to the CCL Division One title in 2013-14, winning the Intermediate Cup and League Cup in the same season, and also finishing a highly creditable sixth in the Premier division last season.  Steve Flatman has stepped up to take on the management role with Paul Burgess assisting, and immediately there has been an upturn in form. A number of former players have returned which has seen Sports win their last four matches; 5-2 versus Sutton Common, 3-2 at Colliers Wood, 3-0 versus Cove and on Tuesday 4-2 in the League Cup at Badshot Lea.

Once again Guildford City Boys & Girls FC will be represented with the Under 8’s in attendance as mascots, and also playing on the pitch at half-time.  Come down and join us for should be an exciting afternoon. Admission at the turnstiles is £7 adults, £4 for concessions and just £1 for Under 16’s. Season ticket holders at any other football club (except Spelthorne) but also including Guildford Flames Ice Hockey, Surrey Storm Netball and Surrey Scorchers Basketball may gain entry at the concession rate.

We look forward to seeing you there.  Up the City!
