The club is in need of a volunteer with a car to assist one day per month in transporting club stock from Stoughton to the town centre for the Guildford City stand at the Farmers’ Market, and back later in the day. The Farmers’ Market takes place on the first Tuesday of each month. It isn’t necessary to man the stall during the day, although willing volunteers will not be turned away. The club much values its presence in the town and is keen for this to continue in the year ahead. Please contact Barry Underwood on 07757 730304 or on firstname.lastname@example.org if you think that you might be able to help the club.
On Saturday City welcomed Bracknell Town from the Hellenic League to Ash Manor. Although the visitors won the encounter 3-1 manager Don Chislett will have been pleased with much of City’s play. For the second consecutive match the home side conceded a very early goal due to goalkeeper error, and a further score in each half from set pieces was enough to give the visitor’s victory. Make no mistake though City had chances and one would hope that when early season profligacy in front of goal is ironed out of the system, Guildford will gain some reward for their approach play. Exciting young winger Kiyanu Pillay had a good chance shortly after City conceded the early goal but delayed his shot long enough for the ball to run away from him. Later the same player smashed a fierce effort against the crossbar from close range, and striker Josh Drew headed over from 10 yards with the goal at his mercy. In the second half striker Dan Stewart saw an effort cleared off the line with the goalkeeper beaten, and it wasn’t to be Drew’s day as he saw a second half penalty saved. Guildford did get some reward when triallist Jamie Howard latched onto a loose ball to lift it over the advancing Bracknell keeper.
City’s interviewer Ian Plested got the thoughts of manager Donovan Chislett after the game, you can listen to the interview here.
