An experimental Guildford City side faced old CCL rivals North Greenford United on Saturday in the second of this season’s pre-season matches. The City side, fielding a large number of triallists, went two goals down early on before a nasty clash of heads between City’s Bruce McPhail and Toby Johnson which necessitated hospital treatment. Guildford had a very unfamiliar look about them and on the hard and bumpy surface they struggled to play cohesive football. North Greenford, now playing their football in the Southern League, looked livelier and it was no surprise that they scored two further goals after the interval to claim a 4-0 victory.
Bruce and Toby were released from hospital later in the evening. Bruce had a deep cut to his forehead requiring stitches, whilst Toby was suffering from concussion. We wish both players well and look forward to seeing them both back in action in due course.
City’s interviewer Ian Plested got the thoughts of manager Donovan Chislett after the game, you can listen to the interview here.
City are next in pre-season action on Tuesday 14 July when they meet Merrow at the Surrey Sports Park, kick-off at 6.30pm. The 3G pitch is located close to the Sports Park entrance.
