Guildford City Football Club is pleased to announce that Mark Redhead has taken over as Club Chairman with immediate effect. Former acting Chairman Chris Pegman has stepped down for personal reasons after five eventful years in charge; a period during which he oversaw two consecutive Combined Counties League championships and a successful first season back in the Southern League.
Redhead, who has lived in Guildford for nearly 30 years, works locally and has been involved at Guildford City for twelve months. Asked why he initially got involved at his local senior club, Mark said “I was attracted to the Club because after watching football since I was a child, I thought it was time to actively get involved and help my local club.” Despite last season’s relegation from the Southern League South & West division, the club’s trend is upward and Mark is looking forward to maintaining the progress. He said “I’d like to thank Chris Pegman for his work at the helm and I am looking forward to taking the club forward”.
Referring to Guildford Borough Council’s Local Plan Mark said that he is “looking forward to working with the Council in conjunction with, and supporting, work on the Local Plan, especially as regards the acquisition of a new community football ground in the town.” Mark has also indicated that he wishes to take the club forward off of the field as well as on the pitch. “We will be looking to become more organised off the pitch, as well as increasing our income both by enhanced sponsorship and attendances. We also want to have stronger relationships with the local community, and as part of that we need as a club to gain Charter Status.” Asked about the new season Mark said “If I have one message to people it is to encourage local football supporters along to the Spectrum to back us. Together we can all take the club forward into an exciting future.”
