In the recent past City’s link with the Guildford based University of Surrey has been supporter based, with a number of students past and present forming the core of the “Sweeney” supporter group. Today Guildford City Football Club is pleased to welcome two more students to the club. This time however we welcome them in a playing capacity, having signed forms to join Dean Thomas’s squad for the forthcoming season.
Matthew King: A 21 year old defensive midfield player who is the current University of Surrey First XI captain. In 2011 he played for Farnborough reserves, and in 2012 he undertook pre-season with Redhill, before concentrating on his university football.
Navid Zandi: Aged 22, Navid is a former Surrey Schools player, who progressed from Croydon Athletic Youth and Reserves to Barnet, where he played for their Under 19s. Comfortable playing right or left midfield, he also represents the University of Surrey.
