After some early teething problems, a makeshift Guildford City side overcame Dorking after twice coming from behind. Leroy Hyett’s early penalty put City on the backfoot and the home side struggled to break down the visitors, Dan Moody coming closest with a long range effort that struck the post. City finally began to exert some pressure after the half hour mark and the reward came in the 32nd minute. Dorking goalkeeper Tim Brewster gifted Martin Debrah his first goal for City after making a mess of a Jamie Thoroughgood pass. Parity didn’t last long however and Shane Duffell finished off a neat move from the visitors to put them ahead at the break.
City were stronger in the second half and had levelled within ten minutes of the second half when Tony Chaplin found himself unmarked to head home from a corner. Dan Moody scored the winner in the 67th minute, finishing from a tight angle after cutting inside his marker. City had a couple of opportunities to extend the lead but in the end had to settle for a slim margin and a nervy finish as Dorking looked to grab a point from the game.
