Partner club update – October 2011

As the end of the 2011 Faroese football season approaches, Havnar Bóltfelag will look back on it as a poor one.  Reigning league champions, they currently find themselves in the unfamiliar territory of the bottom half of the table.  Rivals B36 are contesting the league title with EB/Streymur and HB will need to regroup for next season to get back to the top of the Vodafonedeildin.  Indeed HB aren’t safe from an unlikely relegation, although a recent 4-1 victory over 07 Vestur helped to pull them away from the bottom two.  That victory signalled the end to a miserable run of form (including a 7-1 defeat to ÍF Fuglafjørður) and with just three games left, their destiny is in their hands.

Freiburger have also struggled so far this season after an excellent league campaign last term.  Victories over lowly SV Herten and FC Steinen-Höllstein have been the high points of an otherwise poor opening two months.  They currently sit third from bottom and have some catching up to do if they are to match last season’s achievements.  Manager Ralf Eckert, speaking after a devastating 5-1 loss to league leaders SC Wyhl, was shocked by the result and blamed individual defensive errors for allowing Wyhl to build an unassailable lead.
