Match Reports

Guildford City 1 – 1 Camberley Town

This top of the table clash finished level after Guildford City’s Austin Gacheru cancelled out Adam Cornell’s strike within two minutes of the visitors going ahead.

A tight first half was played out in front of a good crowd at Spectrum, although neither side found their usual rhythm.  A game where most of the play was in midfield yielded few chances, with both defences performing well.  Gacheru shot wide after turning inside his marker, and at the other end Camberley occasionally broke the Guildford offside trap but to no avail.

The game sprung to life just two minutes after the break however, when Cornell found space to plant a shot past Hall after a neat move.  Guildford immediately went searching for an equaliser and Gacheru provided it with a superb curling effort from the edge of the penalty area in the 49th minute.

Neither goalkeeper was particularly tested throughout the match, although home stopper Antony Hall and young Stuart Norman at the other end made good stops in the second half.  Ben Rayner came close with a long range effort, and City felt they were denied a late penalty after Camberley’s Blount pulled Dan Moody’s shirt in the box.  Overall City just about shaded the balance of play but a draw was a fair result for two of the league promotion contenders.
