Croydon 1 – 4 Guildford City

Guildford City blew away opponents Croydon with three goals in the first half. Ben Camara, Simon Cooper and Joel Greaves capitalised on defensive frailties to give City a strong lead at the break. Will Heavey scored an excellent first time shot midway through the second half before Croydon pulled one back with a quarter of an hour to play. The visitors started strongly, quickly exploiting some erratic goalkeeping. Ben Camara was unlucky not to score after rounding the goalkeeper, but made no mistake a few minutes later when he tipped the ball neatly past the onrushing figure in the Croydon goal. A neat finish saw City go ahead in the 9th minute.

In the 17th minute, Simon Cooper beat the Croydon offside trap and finished well into the bottom corner of the goal. The finish marked his tenth goal of the season – not bad for a centre back!

The game levelled out a little, but City were always on top and limited the hosts to speculative long range efforts. Antony Hall did have one shot to worry about however, as the ball bounced across his goalmouth with no-one able to provide the finishing touch.

And on the stroke of half time, a Jaydon Gibbs cross was dropped by the goalkeeper into the path of Joel Greaves, who prodded home goal number three.

It was a similar story in the second half, as City kept the pressure up. The fourth goal came around the hour mark, as Will Heavey struck a sweet first time shot from a cross to the far post.

Perhaps complacency set in here, although Croydon were well beaten at this point. In the 77th minute, a move down the right hand side allowed Martin Smith the chance to net a consolation goal for the Trams.

City were content to stick to the lead, and in the whole game limited Croydon to just two shots on target. A dominant performance and a fine three points.
